The new movie "Deliver Me From Nowhere" is the story of Bruce Springsteen writing and producing his album "Nebraska."
As I recount in my book "Starkweather, the Untold Story of the Crime Spree That Changed America," Springsteen was in a deep depression after his overwhelming successful "River."
He happened to watch "Badlands," the movie about Charlie Starkweather and Caril Fugate's reign of terror throughout Nebraska and Wyoming in 1958. (Produced by Terrance Malik, starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek). After reading the book "Caril" he began recording the album in his bedroom in his rented house in Colton, New Jersey. The result was the "Nebraska" album, one which he has stated will be his legacy. The making of "Nebraska" which "filled the hole" in is life and he has stated will be his legacy.
