Charlie tears off in the Ward car and a chase ensures with the Douglas police chief and the county sheriff barreling after him at speeds of 110 miles an hour through the badlands. The police chief is firing a pistol; the sheriff is leaning out the window and firing his with his  .30-.30. Charlie finally quits the chase. Around 3:30, both Charlie and Caril are now in custody.
